About Doublet Opals
Doublets opal - is thin layers of precious opal adhered to a dark backing. It could be a piece of black common opal (potch),black plastic or glass or iron stone. It becomes a cheap imitation of a solid black opal. It is usually used to make pendants and ear rings. It is not recommended to submerse a doublet in to water, because it can get in between the precious opal and the backing where it is cemented together. Doublet opals makes beautiful affordable opal jewellery where you get more “flash for your buck”. And it will last just as long as solid opal jewellery, as long it is cared for properly.
